The 10 Best Weed Strains of 2023 in our Marina Del Rey Dispensary
It all starts with flower… Beloved for its ability to transform and shapeshift. Without flower, we wouldn’t have THC gummies and edibles, THC tinctures, pre rolls, THC lotions and topicals, dabs, THC vape pens, or any of the other cannabis products we know and love. And yet, amongst all this product innovation, flower is consistently the category our customers love most.
It’s for you, our flower lovers, that we created our most curated shopping experience: The Blossom Bar. The Blossom Bar is a designated space in our store where customers can engage their senses and celebrate flower in its natural glistening, shimmery, crystally state in our patented flower Atomizers.
The flower atomizers are exclusive to our company, and allow customers to engage their senses, by not just seeing the product, but smelling our curated selection of weed strains, delighting in the nuance of the many aromas that make up our flower menu.
At Highway Cannabis, we are proud to offer a highly curated menu of the best weed strains in the market, at a variety of different price points. Before the clock strikes midnight, we want to salute 10 of the best strains that we were at the Blossom Bar this year. Since our cannabis strains are constantly rotating to ensure we always have the freshest strain selection available, these strains may be or may not be in stock, so be sure to ask our LA Dispensary Budtenders for recommendations to find similar strains.
CAM – Devil Driver strain
It’s no secret that 2023 was a huge year for women. It was the year of Barbie, Taylor Swift and Beyonce, so it’s no surprise that woman-owned brand, CAM delivered some of the absolute best weed I smoked this year. The Devil Driver strain from CAM is a genetic cross between the Melonade Strain and the Sundae Driver strain. The Devil Driver strain, with its powerful grape nose, is one of the loudest strains CAM brought us this year. If you like strains like the Grape Pie strain, Watermelon Zkittlez strain, or the Lemon Tree strain, our LA Dispensary staff thinks you’ll love the Devil Driver strain from CAM. This buzzy sativa, beloved by the wake and bake crowd, is so perfect it almost made me a morning person. Almost…
Cannabiotix – Super Silver Haze strain
The Cannabiotix team has been in the cannabis industry for over 20 years, and back when operations happened mostly underground, they were collecting heirloom genetics that we’re lucky to enjoy in the legal era. The original seeds for this Super Silver Haze strain can be traced all the way back to the 70s—A true old-school classic that has rightfully earned its legendary status. In a world where there’s endless strains to choose from, it’s always important to return to these foundational strains, especially when it’s cultivated by some of the best growers in the game who consistently produce potent, highly resinous buds. The Super Silver Haze strain is the result of crossing Skunk #1 strain with the Northern Lights strain, which is then crossed with the Original Haze strain. If you like any of those related strains, our Highway Cannabis dispensary crew in Marina del Rey thinks you’ll love the Super Silver Haze strain from Cannabiotix.
Fig Farms | Blue Face strain
The Blue Face strain from Fig Farms is a genetic-cross of the Face Off OG strain and the Animal Mints strain. According to Fig Farms, their Blue Face strain is their most difficult strain to grow, but the fruits of their labor are evident when you get a sniff of that sharp terpene profile, best experienced through a Highway Cannabis atomizer. Then, once you feel the strength of its effects wash over you after just one hit, you’ll be a forever fan. It’s not just us in Marina del Rey who go crazy over the Blue Face strain either. In 2023, Fig Farms went home with 1st place in the Indoor Flower category and was awarded Best in Show at the Emerald Cup for their Blue Face strain. If you love the Animal Face strain, Animal Cookies strain, or OG Kush strain, we think you’d love the Blue Face strain from Fig Farms.
UpNorth – Lamb’s Bread strain
UpNorth proudly boasts that Humboldt County is “the source for the finest cannabis products anywhere on the planet,” and we couldn’t agree more. The cultivators in Humboldt County have been perfecting their techniques for generations and you can taste the craftsmanship in every hit of the Lamb’s Bread strain from UpNorth. When I took my first hit of the Lamb’s Bread strain, it was like I was peeking behind the Redwood Curtain and experiencing the Humboldt way of life, even from all the way down here in Marina Del Rey. The Lamb’s Bread strain is a sativa strain of unknown genetic origin, a bit mysterious, a little like the County it originates from.
CAM – Lemon Cherry Gelato strain
That’s right, CAM made our list not once but twice this year! I mean honestly, could their Lemon Cherry Gelato strain be any tastier? A cross of the Sunset Sherbet strain with the Girl Scout Cookies strain, the Lemon Cherry Gelato strain is funky and complex. As to be expected from its name, the limonene terpene gives this strain a lemon-forward taste, which is quickly followed by waves of gassy fuel and sweet cherry candy. It’s one of my favorite strains to smoke after a long day, or to make a good day better, or to smoke after a bad day, or to smoke really any day. What I’m saying is, Lemon Cherry Gelato is always a good idea, and available in pre rolls as well as 8ths. CAM also recently launched their Rosin THC Gummies, so even if you’re more of a THC edibles consumer than a flower smoker, you can still experience the perfection that is a CAM weed strain.
Cream of the Crop – Biscotti strain
I have a serious sweet tooth and that extends into my weed strains preferences. If there’s a strain that taste like cookies, consider me a fan, and especially when it’s grown, cured and hand-trimmed to perfection like Cream of the Crop has done with their Biscotti strain. The Biscotti strain is a genetic cross of the Gelato 25 strain with the Sour Florida OG strain, the latter giving it some diesel undertones in its flavor palette. After smoking this particular Biscotti strain, my mind felt blissfully buzzy while my body felt relaxed, making it the perfect pairing to amplify a cozy board game night with friends.
Source – Rainbow Runtz strain
At Highway Cannabis, we love every Runtz strain we can get our hands on, and Source held it down this year with their indoor-grown, hand-trimmed Rainbow Runtz. The Rainbow Runtz strain is a double cross of Zkittlez strain and Do Si Dos strain. This heavy indica made me feel like I was walking on rainbows, which is to say, I felt light and airy even as I sunk deeper into the depths of my couch. Source Cannabis cites that their mission is to “transform the world by elevating the human-experience, one bud at a time,” and once you get a taste of their Rainbow Runtz strain, we think you’ll agree, it’s a mission accomplished. Runtz strains share similarities with strains like the Grape Ape strain, Cherry Pie strain, Purple Punch strain, Forbidden Fruit strain, and Gelato strain, so if you like any of those in the family tree, you need to try Rainbow Runtz from Source Cannabis.
Pacific Stone – Cereal Milk strain
After taking a hit of this Cereal Milk strain, I was instantly transported back to my childhood, memories flooding back of the joy I felt when I’d slurp up the sugary milk at the end of a big bowl of cereal. The nostalgia was quickly followed by a fit of giggles, melting away my troubles and bringing on a sense of childlike wonder, even if just for a few hours. Pacific Stone prides themselves on providing affordable cannabis, and with a strain as good as Cereal Milk, where you’ll find yourself dipping into your stash again and again and again, the price tag matters. Cereal Milk strain is a cross of the Cookies strain with the Cherry Pie strain, then crossed with the Snowman strain. It shares similarities with the Girl Scout Cookies strain, Granddaddy Purple strain or F1 Durb strain, so if you’re a fan of any of those, we think you’ll love the Cereal Milk strain.
Stone Road – Milk and Cookies strain
In the mid-2000s, the Girl Scout Cookies strain moved quickly through the Bay Area and beyond, forging a path for the baked goods strain family to make its mark on the cannabis industry, and in 2023, the Milk and Cookies strain from Stone Road, a queer-led business, made its mark on me. The Milk and Cookies strain is made from crossing Cookies N Cream strain with the Triple OG strain, leading to a final product that smells like sweet, creamy dough and evokes feelings of relaxed, silliness. If you like strains like the Sunset Sherbert strain, Gelato strain, Wedding Cake strain, GMO Cookies strain, Thin Mint Cookies strain, and Platinum Cookies strain, you need to try this Milk and Cookies strain. To learn more about Stone Road, check out our Pride Month spotlight on them.
Lowell Farms | Blueberry Kush strain
Lowell Farms combines two cannabis giants, the iconic Blueberry strain with the legendary OG Kush strain, and the result is their deliciously fruity Blueberry Kush strain. Whether you’re a new smoker or a seasoned vet, there’s something nostalgic about Blueberry Kush, making it an easy crowd favorite. With its OG Kush roots, Blueberry Kush from Lowell Farms has many iconic relatives in its family tree. If you’ve ever enjoyed the Chemdawg strain, Hindu Kush strain, Girl Scout Cookies strain, Headband strain, Bubba Kush strain, Tahoe OG strain, or Ghost OG strain, our Highway Cannabis budtenders think you’ll love Blueberry Kush strain as much as we all did! If it’s the Blueberry notes that especially excite you and you’re interested in learning more about other popular fruity strains, check out this blog from our sister store, KindPeoples.
There were so many amazing strains at our Blossom Bar in Marina del Rey this year that all deserve to be highlighted so here’s a few bonus shout outs. Revelry’s Blackberry Lemonade strain made my cheeks hurt from smiling. The Bonkers GMO strain from Binske was well, Bonkers! The Xeno strain from Alien Labs is a strain I will keep reaching for again and again.
